Best Time to GO

The best time to visit South Luangwa National park is June - the end of September, this is due to the excessive heat that can be slightly 'overwhelming' in October. Further the game viewing in this area during the above times is excellent. The Victoria Falls will be nearing its lowest, however this can give you an unspoiled view of the falls and rock faces. get in touch with one of our Safari specialists – they'd be happy to share their knowledge with you.

Destination

Today your Zambian adventure starts. Depart Lusaka on a charter flight to Mfuwe, on arrival at Mfuwe airport you will be met and driven to Mfuwe Lodge through the main entrance to the South Luangwa Park over the main bridge. Mfuwe Lodge is situated on an “island”, sandwiched between two ox bow lagoons inside the park.  It’s the perfect place to chill and acclimatise after your long international flight. The chalets have their own viewing decks, game activity at the lagoon continues day and night as an abundant variety of game come to quench their thirst.

The following game viewing activities are included in your stay at Mfuwe Lodge:

  • Morning and afternoon Game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle.

  • Morning walking safaris, with a guide and an armed escort scout.

  • Night drives, with the aid of a spotlight, to view the nocturnal species.

  • Bush breakfast combined with a morning drive.

After a morning excursion and brunch, transfer further south; through the South Luangwa National Park game viewing en route to Chindeni Camp. Chindeni accommodates just 8 people in safari tents under thatch, each set on a raised platform in an Ebony forest, overlooking the Chindeni Lagoon, an ancient oxbow of the Luangwa River. In October the lagoon will be drying up and there will be huge flocks of Pelican and Yellow Billed Storks fishing in the Lagoon, in front of your tent. The dining area is set on a raised deck under a huge Mahogany tree and is close to the lagoon - ideal for close up photography of the game coming in to drink, and the waterfowl on the lagoon.

After a morning activity and brunch, take a game viewing drive south, through the South Luangwa National Park, to Kapamba Camp. The camp is situated in Riverine woodland on the bank of the Kapamba River, 6 km from its confluence with the Luangwa, and 62 km to the south of Mfuwe lodge. The Kapamba is a crystal clear shallow river with the water flowing over sand all year. There is a large concentration of game along this river, as it is the only source of water in the area during the dry season. Accommodation is in stone under thatch huts, each with en suite facilities. The Bath acts as a ‘plunge pool’ with his and hers showers overhead!

After a morning activity and breakfast, transfer east, to Bilimungwe Bush Camp. Bilimungwe (Meaning Chameleon!) accommodates 8 people in safari tents under thatch, each set in an Ebony forest, in a semi circle overlooking the Bilimungwe Waterhole, an ancient oxbow of the Luangwa River. The dining area is set on a raised deck under a huge Mahogany tree and is close to the waterhole - ideal for close up photography of the game coming in to drink, and the waterfowl on the lagoon. Big game, the same as at Chindeni can be observed, only in a different habitat setting, as the areas around the two camps are ecologically diverse from one another. Spend two nights at Bilimungwe Bush Camp, in a twin bedded tent, with en suite facilities, on a fully inclusive basis.

After breakfast, take an early morning game viewing drive through the South Luangwa National Park, to Mfuwe Airport and connect to a charter flight to Lusaka. Transfer directly on to another charter to Livingstone. On arrival in Livingstone you will be met and transferred to Waterberry Lodge. Waterberry is only 32km upstream of the Victoria Falls, on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River and only 30km from the Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana. Waterberry Lodge is situated in a breathtaking, secluded position on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River. Accommodation is in chalets under thatch, each overlooking the Zambezi River. There is a private lake behind the lodge and the two new accommodation units overlook the lake.

Waterberry in house activities that are included in your stay are:

  • Escorted tour of the Victoria Falls.

  • Escorted tour of Livingstone town, museum and Maramba market.

  • Sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

  • Island picnic lunch.
